How to successfully upgrade Sony Vaio PCG-NV105 from Windows XP Home to Windows XP Professional (WinXP Pro)

The fact, that NV105 is only sold in Europe, this text is german only.

 

Wer das Sony Vaio PCG-NV105 oder ähnlich gekauft hat, will eventuell weg vom Win XP Home Edition zum Win XP Pro.

Leider gehen dabei die ganzen annehmlichkeiten (Vornehmlich das FN+F5 für die Einstellung der Bildschirmhelligkeit - wichtig für die Akkulaufzeit) verloren!

Ein Anruf  bei der Sony Vaio Hotline (auch über http://www.vaio.net) endet meist in einem frustrierendem "Das kostet leider 20 Euro! bitte halten Sie Ihre Kreditkartennummer bereit"

Aber halt! spart euch das Geld (oder spendet mir einen Teil davon;-)

nicht Ungeduldig werden lohnt sich in diesem Falle:

Auf der Support CD 4 finden sich einige Tools (natürlich undokumentiert!) die nur in der richtigen Reihenfolge installiert werden müssen. Hierbei hilf eine "Entscheidungsmatrix" für die meistgesuchte Funktion FN + F5 (Displayhelligkeit), in der Richtigen Reihenfolge Installiert wirkt das Wunder ;-)

How can I install/remove l2tp ipsec on my VAIO?

Solution:

  1. Copy the installer program (MSL2TP.EXE) to your VAIO and run it.
  2. The installer program will check your VAIO and install Microsoft L2TP/IPSec VPN Client.
  3. It will also install the Microsoft IPSec VPN Configuration Utility and a help file, both of which can be accessed by clicking Start, pointing to Programs, and then pointing to Microsoft IPSec VPN.
  4. To remove Microsoft L2TP/IPSec VPN Client and its associated configuration utility and help file, use the Add or Remove Programs feature in the Control Panel.

Description:

I have installed new software on my VAIO that has Windows XP installed - Why do I receive memory or storage space errors?

Solution:

WARNING: Editing the registry can lead to instability, and could mean that you lose access to the system. Please take care when using the registry editor.

You may receive these messages if the IRPStackSize value, which manages the physical storage space and memory that can be used by newly installed software,  is set to below 15 (default). 

  1. Open the registry editor.
  2. Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters.
  3. Search for an entry called IRPStackSize.
  4. If this entry does not exist:


       

    1. Click Edit, point to New and then click DWORD Value.
    2. Type IRPStackSize and press ENTER (Please note that the value name is case sensitive)
       
  5. Double-click IRPStackSize to modify the value.
  6. Under Base, click Decimal.
  7. In the Value data field, enter 15.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Reboot your VAIO.
